Create an Artist Profile on Spotify and Edit It – TUTORIAL Spotify for Artists

Currently, publishing our music on Spotify has become one of the main goals to make our music accessible to everyone if we are composers or music producers. To manage our presence on the platform, the Swedish company offers us Spotify for Artists, a website and mobile app that allows us to create an artist profile on Spotify and control it from a user account.

In this Spotify for Artists tutorial, we show you step by step how to request access and how to edit your artist profile on Spotify, thus obtaining the verified artist badge. You will also be able to see the daily playback statistics, change your Spotify profile pictures, edit the biography, post your upcoming concerts, and access a wealth of quality information for managing and promoting your music project.

1. Tutorial to create an artist profile on Spotify: Having your music distributed on Spotify (prerequisite)

To claim your artist profile, you must have a song published on the platform. For this, you need to have distributed your finished music productions online to Spotify through an official aggregator/distributor. If you haven’t done this yet, this article has all the information on how to choose the best music distributor for your project.

2. Create your artist profile by requesting control of the profile through Spotify for Artists

The steps to follow to claim control and access to our artist profile are as follows:

1. Go to the Spotify for Artists website and click on “Get Access” at the top right of the screen. (In this tutorial, we are using the website. In the mobile app, available on Play Store and App Store, the options may vary.)

2. Select whether you want to control the profile as an Artist/Manager (which will give you the most control) or as a member of the record label.

3. At this point, it will ask you to log in with your Spotify user account (the one you use to listen to music). If you don’t have an account, it gives you the option to create one by clicking “Sign up for Spotify” (you can control the artist profile with a free account without any problem).

4. Once you have logged in, on the next screen (Claim an artist profile), as mentioned before, it indicates that you must have distributed your music on Spotify. Click on “Continue.”

Setting up Spotify for Artists (step 2)

5. In the next step, after confirming that we are sure of the user account we will use, it will ask us to provide the artist profile (band or singer’s name) we want to request control of. We will fill in the name and select the profile picture and name corresponding to the artist in Spotify’s automatic search. (On Spotify, there may be multiple artists with the same name.)

6. Once the artist is selected, it will ask for an email, and send a six-digit confirmation code. At this point, they might also ask for confirmation through one of the artist’s social networks (Twitter, Instagram…). The confirmation is done manually by Spotify’s team, so it may take a few days to process.

Soon, we will have access to the Spotify for Artists dashboard via the “Log In” button on the homepage.

3. How to edit my artist profile on Spotify with ‘Spotify for Artists’

Once you’ve created your artist profile on Spotify and gained access, you can go to the “dashboard” on the web or app and you will find the following options. Below, you will see how to edit your artist profile on Spotify.

Customize artist profile with Spotify for Artist (change profile image on Spotify)
Everything we can modify on the Spotify for Artists panel (web version)
  1. Audience: analyze our audience, where our music is played, genre, age… (this data can be very useful to analyze our songs and take them into account the next time we sit down to compose a song).
  2. Profile (screen shown in the image above). Here you can edit your Spotify artist profile and modify the following:
  3. Customize the “Header Image” (background image or banner) and “Avatar Image” (or Profile Image) on Spotify.
  4. About: add or edit the text of your biography on your Spotify artist profile, add promotional photos, and the Spotify links and your social media links. This is definitely one of the main things to edit on your artist profile on Spotify.
  5. Concerts (updated: live events): here you can link a Songkick account so your upcoming concerts appear on Spotify. Update: now for your concerts to appear on your Spotify profile, Songkick is no longer used; you need to do it through the Bandsintown platform. Here is a tutorial on how to publish concerts on Spotify.
  6. Fans also like: artists that your followers also listen to (you cannot modify these).
  7. Artist Fundraising Pick: here you can request donations for your project or for a foundation.
  8. Latest Release: here we can see the latest song distributed by the artist (non-editable).
  9. Artist Pick: it helps you highlight a song or playlist with a message to promote your music for up to 15 days.
  10. (Tripulante) Since you’ve made it this far, and I used it as an example, you can listen and follow my project Tripulante on Spotify 😉
  11. Playlists: Not shown in the image above, but if you scroll down in the “Profile” section, you’ll find the place to create and link your own playlists. These will appear on your artist profile.
