Create a LINK PAGE for Your New SONG with SMART LINKS (or Smart Links)
If you’ve just released or are about to release a new album, whether it’s a single, EP, or album, you’ve probably noticed that most artists and record labels use a web link with the album cover, music video, and all the links to the single in one unified page to share it.
To perform this function, which is very practical for music marketing campaigns and social media promotion, some digital aggregators (music distributors to Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc…) offer their own page, often with paid versions if we don’t want the aggregator’s advertisement.
If you’re interested in having a free smart link page for your new music production, below is a step-by-step guide through one of them: Songlink/Odesli and links to several of the main sites where you can create this type of page.
Setting up a release link page (Smart links for a single, album, or artist)
One of the platforms that allows us to create this free smart link page for our song or album is Songlink / Odesli, recently acquired by Linktree (the famous company that lets us add multiple links to our social media bio).
After completing the process required for uploading a song to Spotify, we can configure the following link sections to share:
- Cover of the single, album, or playlist
- Listening links and streaming platforms
- Download/purchase links
- Display of the music video or lyric video on the same page
The platform will simply add a small link to its website at the bottom of the page or footer.
Steps to create a smart links page for a Single, EP, or Album release
- Register on the platform. Go to https://odesli.co/dashboard and click “Sign up” to register.
2. Once inside, in the “Pages” section, click on “New Page“
3. Select from the list of text/link types (song/album/artist…) and add the name of the track or album that will appear in the link.
4. Click on “Edit Page“
5. In the first section “Add song, album, or podcast“, add the copied link from Spotify or another platform (right-click and share/copy the song link from within Spotify).
Once the link is copied, the platform automatically detects most streaming, sales, and video links for the single, album, or podcast we’ve added.
Simply choose which platforms will be displayed on the link page or smartlinks. By default, the “landing page” includes links to Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, Pandora, YouTube Music, Napster, and others.
6. Configure the “purchase” section if we want to add links to digital purchase platforms like iTunes or Amazon.
7. Add or modify the “YouTube embed” video section in the smart link page for the single or album. We will make sure the video that has been automatically detected is the one we want to show for the song we recorded. We can also add more than one video to the link page to promote your music on Spotify and other streaming platforms.
8. We can add new sections and extra links, such as ticket sales for our live shows and social media for the project.
9. Once finished, we will return to the “Dashboard” section and see all the pages we’ve configured with the link available in “Copy URL” to copy and paste into our social media, emails, website, etc…
It’s worth noting that the platform also offers a paid version, but for the above configurations, we didn’t miss anything in its free version.
